Final Report

The East Central North America Regional Programming Contest (ECNA RPC) was held on Saturday November 11, 2000. There were 101 teams drawn from 53 colleges and universities throughout western Pennsylvania, Ohio, Michigan, eastern Ontario, and Indiana (excluding the Greater Chicago Metropolitan Area).

As it was difficult for some teams in the ECNA region to travel to a single site for the contest, the ECNA RPC was held as a distributed contest for the first time. There were two contest sites: The University of Cincinnati Site in Cincinnati, Ohio (22 teams) and the Case Western Reserve University Site in Cleveland, Ohio (79 teams).

We are pleased to report that the ECNA RPC was again a big success. Here are a few comments and observations:

1. The contest consisted of 8 problems with 52 teams solving at least one problem.

2. The maximum number of problems solved was 6 problems.

4. There was one team that was disqualified. The reason is that they tried to "fork bomb" the judging machine (but was caught by our security safeguards). The matter is being brought to the attention of the team coach

5. The contest was delayed by 45 minutes due to some technical problems at the Case Western Reserve University site
